Conference "Modern Times - Utopias and Realities"

A discussion conference "Modern Times - Utopias and Realities" was held on 24 April 2017.
The conference was organized by the Scientific Center for Economic Research and Strategies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Arts (BASA) and the Sofia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).
Co-chairmens of the conferenc were academician Grigor Velev, chairman of BASA and Georgi Chernev, Chairman of SCCI.
The subject of the conference is a reflection of the fact that humanity is facing new challenges of economic, social, technological, religious, demographic, migratory and ideological nature. The question arises whether these challenges are related to a new beginning with a radical change of the present status quo, whether the human morality will be regained, or simply enter into the next backstage management of the world and its modeling in the next period.
Academician Velev opened the conference with a greeting to the participants and the guests.
Professor Petko Ganchev, in his report on the New Age and the need for new conceptual synthesis and practical solutions, noted that there is a process of complete deformation of the modern system, where the rules of the jungle apply, thus our civilization faces a global test. Also indicated the existence of a process of moderate conservatism and the need to seek synthesis that to work in the interest of humanity.
Georgi Bozhinov took part in the discussion, pointing out that the processes of de-idealization and re-ideology go together.
Professor Nako Stefanov presented a report on the new paradigms and the demand for post-industrial models based on new technologies and the related future development concepts of Germany, Japan, China, India and Russia. He considered also the presence of an existential crisis in our society with the creation of enclaves that are not controlled by the state.
Academician Nikolai Petrov's report on security issues was presented by Academician Boyan Lalov. The questions are addressed on the existence of the individual and of the nation, spontaneous self-organization and disorganization that is related to the loss of sovereignty.
Academician Georgi Marinov in his report on the neoliberal swamp traces the foundations of modern capitalism that have developed so far and the possibilities for change with the construction of the new construction of a multipolar model.
Academician Margarita Kamenova, chief secretary of BASA, emphasized the question that a social revolution without ideology has not existed so far and noted a breakdown of ideologies.
Professor Dechko Svilenov examined the religious geopolitics and the ideological challenge of Islam.
Academician Grigor Velev concluded that it is necessary to pay more attention to Bulgaria as a state and nation, and that BASA has long developed a Bulgarian national doctrine and proposes it for adoption by the Parliament.
The conference was attended by many BASA members, business people, public figures, scientists, specialists and students.
